34 West believes that theater should be accessible to everyone. Performing in a wide variety of locations and venues — from Wilmot, Ohio to New York, New York — the company has influenced and has been influenced by countless people of diverse perspectives and experiences.
Longtime friends, Jeffrey Querin and Stephen Wayne have performed in venues from New York to Seattle. As professional actors, they once spent a year traveling the country in Jeff's father’s car searching for the perfect stage, attending amazing productions and meeting amazing people. But they never found exactly what they were looking for.
In 1999, the two traveled to the east coast where Jeff had been invited to interview for admission to a prestigious Ivy League drama program. It was a fantastic opportunity, but Jeff knew almost immediately that the timing, the location, the fit was all wrong.
As Jeff and Stephen left town, heading home on Route 34 West, they knew that the old dream had died, and a new one was about to be born. Returning to Ohio, they founded 34 West Theatre Company, and set to work creating the kind of theatre company they wished they had found at the beginning of their journey.
Today, 34 West is a vibrant, non-profit theater company that provides enlightening and entertaining original works and modern classics for a demographically diverse audience in the Northeastern United States and beyond in a wide variety of venues. 34 West also provides the kind of professional opportunities for emerging actors that Jeff and Stephen were looking for at the beginning of their careers.
