That's Entertainment!

34west Theater September 9, 2022

More live shows. More streaming. More entertainment!

First up, we’re planning 4 live productions that will bring you to your feet and give you all the feels in 2023.

With 1 repeat hit from 2019 and 3 never-before-seen comedies, we’re certain you have all you need to plan your next several date nights :) We can’t reveal the titles just yet but we promise you’ll burst with excitement when you find out what they are.

Filming is underway for our second short film, ARDEN HIGH. Inspired by our sellout 80’s series Addicted to Love, the short follows our high school secretary as she navigates prom and single-motherhood. We’ll be submitting to film festivals around the globe in early January. And then… we’ll be pitching this story and others to our peeps in Hollywood.

Our NTLive series featuring screenings of the latest National Theatre of London productions will occur monthly and are absolutely inspired. If you’ve never attended one of these Sunday night events, think of it like “movie night” except it feels like sitting in the front row of a world-class production.

There’s a lot planned for 2023 but it’s all just the icing on an already delicious cake made especially for you to enjoy.

Because our hope is that you’ll leave happier than when you arrived. That your mouth will hurt from smiling so much. That you’ll experience something incredibly innovative and breathtaking — basically, that you’ll feel all the feels.

After all, that’s entertainment!

Ground Zero

34west Theater September 2, 2022

It’s here we test new material — new stories, new bits, new characters.

It’s never gone up in flames. We’ve never had a night that wasn’t entertaining, where the audience wasn’t fully invested.

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! YOU’RE PERFORMING SHOWS THAT HAVE NEVER BEEN PERFORMED.

The sky’s the limit. Even if the sky falls down — we won’t.

Because every moment is held by our performers every step of the way. If the characters are compelling, then the story is there. If the story is there, then the world of the characters grows. If that world grows, then sequels get made!

And this is where the goods are — follow-up stories where we see the return of these same characters encountering new problems, relationships, new songs, etc.

Will there be a sequel to our sellout summer show SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY?

I think you already know the answer.

Most Popular Drink

34west Theater July 15, 2022

Act I is what happens before the show starts.

The experience begins the moment you walk through the doors. You’ve arrived, you’re at your table, you may even meet some new friends sitting nearby. And then you decide to get something at the bar.

Maybe it’s a bottle of our Paso Robles wines. Or perhaps a Not-Your-Father’s Ice Cream Float. Or perhaps its our most popular drink. The MPD. The Queen. The iconic LEMON SPARKLE.

Locally made lemon sorbet, dry Dibon Champagne with a hand-rolled fruit slice garnish.

What should I drink for SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY? The Lemon Sparkle. What do I sip during one of our monthly NTLive Broadcasts? The Lemon Sparkle.

Available in single, double or triple.

The choice is yours…

8 Year Anniversary

34west Theater July 8, 2022

Since July 11, 2014 the following are true,

28 original plays.

6 years of sold out performances.

1 award-winning short film.

Visits from 4 different Tony Award and Olivier Award-winning producers.

400+ annual Season Pass holders.

And that’s just our time in Charleston. Owners-writers-actors Jeff Querin and Stephen Wayne started 34 West in 2000, creating 50+ original stories for the stage. They’ve performed their shows in everything from a bluegrass bar in Brooklyn to a prison in New Mexico!

However, on any given Thursday through Saturday in Charleston, you can see something extraordinarily unique in the heart of downtown. Innovation and creativity combine on the corner of Meeting and Pinckney Streets.

Take our current show SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY as a perfect example of the “magic” that occurs.

Four actors change characters in the blink of an eye. A 90’s coffee shop changes to a shopping mall then to a 5-story walkup then back to a coffee shop — all without you realizing any costly hydraulics or major pyrotechnics were not used.

That’s why people return again… and again. Not only is this particular live theater experience incomparable to ANYWHERE ELSE but no other venue allows you to have the artists make you a drink before the magic begins!

It’s a place where creativity mingles amongst a community of like minds. Part theatrical workshop, part cocktail party.

Over the past 8 years, what’s developed is an incubator of sorts; a creativity machine where love, inspiration and positivity are the gear works.

We hope you can experience one of these evenings with us soon! For tickets…

Hot Summer Nights

34west Theater July 1, 2022

Our current show SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY is the absolute perfect way to spend a cool evening in downtown Charleston this summer. Otherwise, you’re doomed.

The whole reason to work and live in Charleston is to enjoy the heat throughout the year. However, we all need a respite from the jungle-like tropics every now and then and 34 West is the next best thing to packing everyone in a freezer.

The show itself is silly + sweet just like Kramer or Elaine or Monica... In fact, this particular musical (which is selling out very quickly these days)! was actually designed to look like any show on “Must-See-TV”.

We call it Friends meets Seinfeld since it’s a loving homage to a handful of iconic NBC hits. We even nod our heads to a few Meg Ryan movies as well!

The story, directed by actor-writer-producer Becca Anderson, follows a group of friends in a local coffee shop as they stalk an eligible bachelor in their building. Chaos ensues, love is found, and everything is wrapped up in a beautiful bow, sort of.

Your mouth will hurt from smiling. Your side will ache from laughing. And to top it all off, you won’t even break a sweat… mostly because we always keep the theater quite cool.

So grab your friends… and a light-weight sweater and join us for a night out in downtown Charleston you won’t soon forget!
