Our summer musical SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY is on a roll!

Many nights are already filling up through September 17. Maybe it’s because its our tribute to Friends and Seinfeld. But most likely its because there’s no other place you can you get an immersive theater experience while enjoying a lovely champagne cocktail!

It’s as if an off-Broadway theater made love to a really nice wine bar and then never went home in the morning.

Too much? Well, you get the idea.

SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY is sentimental, angsty, ridiculous and straight out of “must-see-TV.” Co-creators Jeff Querin and Stephen Wayne have crafted a hilarious homage to 90’s sitcoms — plus some Sleepless in Seattle vibes, because why not?!

Even the set looks like the perfect neighborhood haunt you would’ve seen every Thursday night.

We think your friends will have a night out in downtown Charleston they won’t soon forget.

And maybe after the show you can do what we do and grab a drink at another favorite haunt just steps away — Doar Bros. Best cocktails in Charleston!

Documentary

Everything we do should come from a place of love.

That’s 34 West’s motto, anyway. If you’ve ever wanted a taste of what writer-owner-actors Jeff Querin and Stephen Wayne are all about then you should probably watch this recent 5 minute documentary by artist Nick Fancher, and see why the dynamic duo is so infectious (and wildly successful).

Writer’s retreat

Actor-writer-directors Jeff Querin and Stephen Wayne are in Scotland celebrating the Queen and creating ideas for MOONSHINE this fall, as well as plotting out a nine season arc of LOVE POTION.

Some lovely British friends, who also happen to be film investors, invited the duo to travel with them on a two-week holiday exploring the Scottish Highlands.

The intent was to take a break from work but the scenery, the people, the pubs, the gingers — all are sensory overload for these two creatives, and well, the ideas are flying.

Just the sheer number of times “kilts” has been discussed for future stories is staggering. And they’re not about to confess the variety of Google searches that have been made on the subject.

You can, however, expect to see an elderly Scottish widow with a penchant for kinky things or perhaps two night watchmen discussing fiber supplements.

Maybe these will get used, maybe not. The point is, you can give a writer a retreat but they’ll never retreat from writing.

Short Film Accolades!

Our recent short film LOVE POTION is racking up awards on the international film festival circuit!

It’s a pretty impressive roster of accolades so far, from small avant-garde to the larger internationally recognized festivals. The verdict is unanimous: our little 15-minute short stands out!

We always thought our popular stage shows, written by Jeff Querin and Stephen Wayne, would make a fun film or series. Last year, we took the opportunity to do just that with our highly successful production of LOVE POTION NO. 9.

The result was a quirky, black + white film about a zombie outbreak in a 1950’s diner (inspired by Pleasantville and Happy Days).

We’ve now written a pilot episode and 10 episode arc off the same story and will pitch the concept later this year!

We’re doing the same with our other poplar productions as well. ARDEN HIGH, SUPER FREAK, MOONSHINE — all had multiple “episodes” on the 34 West stage. All are being developed into their own series.

West Hollywood Meeting

We recently visited our Creative Team in West Hollywood to discuss updates on 34 West Films!

We’re developing our original stories for the screen. And so far, we’re having a blast!

Our short film LOVE POTION is racking up awards on the festival circuit. We’ve written the pilot episode for the story as well, along with a 10-episode arc. In addition, we’ve completed the script for our next short ARDEN HIGH, based off our sellout production of ADDICTED TO LOVE.

Each of these stories have a complete “universe” of lovable characters and conflicts. It doesn’t hurt that the original productions and their sequels were incredibly popular with multi-month sold out runs.

Our visit to Hollywood was highly productive and we’ll soon be pitching our wares to the masses…

However, the greatest part of our trip occurred when we least expected it…

We were staying at the Pendry Hotel in West Hollywood, which has a fabulous rooftop pool and bar. After realizing it was overcrowded, we resorted to the quiet little bar on the first floor. We chatted with a friendly man by the name of Donald Lee who just happens to be a producer on the film THE GREATEST SHOWMAN.

Jaw drop.

He’s produced an impressive roster of major motion pictures. Jeff, Becca, and Steve had the privilege of his company for an afternoon.

Moral of the story — you can try and keep up with the influencers at the rooftop pool or you can make friends with the real thing on the first floor.
