Ground Zero

34west Theater September 2, 2022

It’s here we test new material — new stories, new bits, new characters.

It’s never gone up in flames. We’ve never had a night that wasn’t entertaining, where the audience wasn’t fully invested.

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! YOU’RE PERFORMING SHOWS THAT HAVE NEVER BEEN PERFORMED.

The sky’s the limit. Even if the sky falls down — we won’t.

Because every moment is held by our performers every step of the way. If the characters are compelling, then the story is there. If the story is there, then the world of the characters grows. If that world grows, then sequels get made!

And this is where the goods are — follow-up stories where we see the return of these same characters encountering new problems, relationships, new songs, etc.

Will there be a sequel to our sellout summer show SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY?

I think you already know the answer.

Show Business

34west Theater August 12, 2022

Writing every show, acting in every performance, serving drinks, seating patrons,… it’s a lot.

But then add all the other day-to-day tasks and we wonder how our team doesn’t go insane! More importantly, how do Jeff and Steve keep the stories flowing and the quality at a high level?

The secret may make you gag a little, but it’s true.

It’s “love.”

Love for each other, for those we work alongside, for the audience and for the content we’re creating. The world needs hopeful, optimistic, hilarious stories. Stories that inspire. Stories that make you root for the underdog. Stories that allow you to escape for a few hours and remind you there’s still a lot of good in the world.

This is what “show business” means to us: working hard to provide hope and laughter through original stories.

Come downtown some night and experience why our version of showbiz makes the world a better place :)

Tiffany & Roxanne

34west Theater August 5, 2022

Sometimes dipping into insanity for a hot second is exactly what the story needs. There’s a moment in every performance when all decorum is thrown out the window.

We’ll break the “fourth wall”. We’ll parody a parody. Or we’ll introduce a one-off character that holds a mirror up to our hero, revealing some sort of truth.

Enter Tiffany and Roxanne.

Two elderly women trying their best to be young and relevant and always failing miserably. They’re often poignant, always hysterical and have now shown up in four separate productions.

Portrayed by owners-actors-writers Jeff Querin and Stephen Wayne, these two always arrive when our hero needs them the most.

We first met Tiffany and Roxanne in a night club in UPTOWN GIRL (above). They encouraged Jersey to seek true love no matter what. Or at a coffee shop in SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT when they helped a divorced couple rekindle their romance.

In our current show, SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY, they help our lonely hero break out of her shell.

The benefit of writing every play is that we can reintroduce favorite characters into new stories.

Like a reoccurring role on a sitcom.

These are stock characters which help serve the story and our hero. Upstairs Joan, Largo Cutting, Marty Funkyballoo, Herbie Nine Lives,… all have stolen the show in multiple productions. And all have provided meaningful insight into our hero’s journey.

It may look like unorganized chaos. It may feel ridiculous. But watch out, these outlandish moments may just give you insight into the human experience.

Sorry, I Have Tickets to 34 West

34west Theater July 29, 2022

The ultimate get out of jail free card.

For 7 years, we’ve sold out every holiday show before it began.

Its clinically proven you’ll live longer if you buy your 34 West tickets months ahead of time. Why? Because you’ll stop stress eating. Chain smoking. Purchasing tickets months in advance will improve your sex life.

Because you won’t be worried about those pesky holiday plans. You can sail into September and walk briskly through October knowing you already have plans.

“Hey son-in-law, want to come to my Sexy Secret Santa Party?”

Sorry, I have tickets to 34 West.

“Hey co-worker, we’re decorating cookies at Buffalo Wild Wings tonight.”

Sorry, I have tickets to 34 West.

This year’s production MOONSHINE promises laughs, hijinks, and most of all that warm feeling that comes only from being with the ones you love while everyone else is left out in the cold.

“Do you want to just hang out and do nothing this Christmas?”

Sorry, I have tickets to 34 West.

July Updates

34west Theater July 22, 2022

34 West celebrated its 8th anniversary in Charleston, our current show SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY is breaking records, we started pre-production on our next short film ARDEN HIGH, AND a new show in NYC has blown our minds.

Good things are ahead!

Owners-actors-writers Jeff Querin and Stephen Wayne started the troupe in 2000 touring smaller venues, including a medium-level prison in Albuquerque!

But a milestone for the company came in 2014, when they opened a brick-and-mortar venue in beautiful downtown Charleston. It took about a year and a half to build an audience, and we’ve been sold out ever since. Every. Single. Night.

Now we’re developing our most popular shows into short films and pilot scripts. Its a big-fun-crazy endeavor that, surprisingly, is making our live shows that much better in return.

We’re always attempting to improve upon the experience you’ll have when you see a show. Thus, we traveled to NYC on Tuesday to see TITANIQUE, an inspired and outrageous show parodying the blockbuster film as interpreted by “Celine Dion.” Words cannot express the impact it made on our writers…

Expect to see even more bizarre, clever, and hysterical moments at 34 West on your next visit.
